Good tread depth right across the width of a tyre is vital for safe grip on the road. Worn tyres, even just on one edge, can significantly increase the risk of losing control.
To extend the life of your tyres, and to keep your vehicle safe, we recommend you regularly check air pressures all round, inspect tyres for uneven wear, and have wheels balanced and rotated every 10,000km.
If uneven tyre wear is detected, your vehicle should be examined by one of our trained technicians. Your vehicle may simply need a wheel alignment or the wear pattern could be a symptom of a more serious mechanical problem.
As tyres age, they become harder and may develop “age cracks”, making them more susceptible to sliding in the wet and increasing the risk of blow outs. This is a common problem with vehicles, caravans, boat trailers and the like which do low kilometres. These old tyres may have ample tread, but are dangerous to travel on.
